I know the heart crushing pain of learning that there is an "in crowd" and of knowing how hurtful mean and terrible those people can turn on you and be. In school I was bullied nearly everyday. Arm your self with informaton, hold your ground even when the same people try to crush you with the same hateful words. I just hope that this entry can help someone in some small way.
Office cliques: unethical or just natural? By Carlton Vogt

No sooner do I pick my way -- successfully I hope -- through one minefield, than a reader nudges me into another one.
One possible reaction would be to adopt the position of Generation W (these are the people whose answer to everything is "Whatever") and tell the writer that it's his tough luck and he should "just get over it." Life is unfair, they say, so stop being a victim. But being older and raised to be more considerate of people, I think we need to determine what's going on.

Cliques defined
Cliques are support groups made up of people who believe in the same things. One of the characteristics of cliques is that they exist where there is no conflict resolution process-there's no formal place people can resolve their differences. "Healthcare is so filled with ambiguity," Jones says. "Healthcare still hasn't figured out if it's a right or a commodity. Some people treat it as if people should get health care regardless of their ability to pay, and others feel it's for sale and those that can afford the best get the best. Both arguments have legitimacy. Neither has been resolved. Whenever you have ambiguity, people want to know which is right. When there's no way to formally determine which is right and which is wrong, people form cliques with people who believe in the same things they do."
Cliques aren't always bad. They can foster people's desire to belong. Problems occur, however, when cliques support policies that administration doesn't support. Cliques that go against management's will often become a detriment to the organization.
Dealing with Cliques in the Workplace

In almost every human situation, likes and dislikes, alliances and exclusions start manifesting themselves. You may find yourself dealing with unseen barriers between groups that are reluctant to help one another, don't share information, and sometimes even actively hinder another person or group's success.
